Poll: Racial views steer some away from Obama

Poll: Racial views steer some away from Obama
One-third of polled white Democrats harbor negative views toward blacks

WASHINGTON - Deep-seated racial misgivings could cost Barack Obama the White House if the election is close, according to an AP-Yahoo News poll that found one-third of white Democrats harbor negative views toward blacks — many calling them "lazy," "violent" or responsible for their own troubles.
The poll, conducted with Stanford University, suggests that the percentage of voters who may turn away from Obama because of his race could easily be larger than the final difference between the candidates in 2004 — about two and one-half percentage points.

Certainly, Republican John McCain has his own obstacles: He's an ally of an unpopular president and would be the nation's oldest first-term president. But Obama faces this: 40 percent of all white Americans hold at least a partly negative view toward blacks, and that includes many Democrats and independents.

Hey. Just wanted to say thanks for voicing your opinion and calling attention to the startling policy views of Gov. Palin.

Please check out my blog:

I'm also an independent minded voter and I am just appalled that John McCain, who I once admired, has made such a crass political decision in selecting Gov. Palin as a running mate.

Policy views and intellectual curiosity matter tremendously to me - and Gov. Palin frightens me on both fronts.

Glad to be meeting some like-minded folks who are unwilling to sit idly by and let the McCain campaign fleece the public.

I found mudflats and will now be a regular reader, and I've added you to my blogroll.

I'm working hard to attract attention and appreciate that you've added me to your roll.

This issue is too important to let slip - Sarah Palin lies and disrespects the rule of law. The truth matters to me far more than political affiliation, so let's fight the good fight!
